UT Dallas supports ventures from beginning to end – from “invention to exit.”
The Office of Technology Commercialization works with university researchers and industry or public sector partners to bring the fruits of innovation occurring in labs and classrooms to the public through commercialization.
In simple terms, commercialization means identifying inventions, protecting them (for example, via patenting), and licensing them to 3rd parties that believe the inventions could add value to new or existing products and services.
The Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship trains faculty and students in the field of venturing introduces them to mentors and service providers who can help them get their venture started, and provides them with funding and spaces to work.
The over-arching goal is to help these student and faculty entrepreneurs get into the best position possible to deliver their innovations to the larger, global community, either by launching a startup venture or licensing their inventions to others.
